The Science of PSR3

Portrait®PSR3 yields dramatic therapeutic results across a unique spectrum of treatment.

From superficial epidermal to deeper dermal treatment, Portrait®PSR3 yields the therapeutic results patients and physicians desire with an optimized recovery profile. The innovative Portrait®PSR3 technology initiates skin regeneration by delivering millisecond pulses of high-energy Nitrogen plasma to the skin's surface in a uniform, predictable and gentle fashion.

Nitrogen has the clinical benefit of purging oxygen from the skin's surface so that charring is eliminated and the epidermal layer remains intact acting as an insulator and biological dressing. The upper dermis is modified through thermal conduction of the plasma energy. Studies confirm that even with multiple passes thermal injury is contained and limited. This characteristic of Portrait®PSR3 results in faster healing and supports a unique microenvironment for skin regeneration.

Clinical studies show regeneration of the reticular architecture of the upper dermis with single high-energy or multiple non-ablative treatments. A line of cleavage quickly forms at high-energy settings so that the epidermis and upper dermis are shed. At non-ablative settings the top 5-6 cells of the stratum corneum are shed. Below the line of cleavage the upper layer of residual tissue is thermally modified. The old, thermally modified architecture is progressively replaced by a new architecture. Fibroblasts from the deeper dermis migrate to the surface to restore the skin to healthier function and appearance.

FAQ

What makes Portrait® different from other available treatments?

Portrait® reduces wrinkles and improves skin tone and texture without lengthy downtime. There is minimal discomfort or redness and little or no risk of scarring or pigmentation change, as shown in clinical study treatments to date.

Portrait® is a short in-office procedure that lets you quickly resume normal activities. You get the benefits and results consistent with more aggressive laser treatments but with the convenience and safety of non-laser treatments. The novel technology of Portrait® is clinically proven to actually regenerate skin.

What kind of improvements can I expect to see?

You will see improvements in skin texture, tone and reduced fine wrinkles at lower levels of treatment and reduced deep wrinkles at higher levels.

Who is a good candidate for Portrait®?

In contrast to laser and other light-based treatments, all skin types should be appropriate for the Portrait® procedure. However, the bulk of the treatments performed to date have been on skin with with mild to moderate levels of pigmentation so you should seek the advice of your physician if you have darker skin or are prone to scarring.

What does the procedure feel like and how long does it take?

You may experience a sensation of heat during the brief procedure. Generally a full face treatment can be completed in less than 10 minutes. All treatments require that you apply a topical anesthetic before the procedure or sometimes your physician may decide that a small injection of anesthesia may be better if you are only having a small area treated. Your dermatologist may recommend that treatments at higher levels be accompanied by an oral medication.

How many treatments does a patient need?

Your dermatologist will recommend an appropriate treatment regimen for you. Typically this ranges from 1 to 4 treatments depending upon the outcome you desire, your skin condition and the level of improvement you are seeking relative to downtime.

How does it work?

The innovative Portrait® technology transfers Nitrogen plasma energy to the skin surface using a non-contact technique producing controlled, uniform regeneration of sun-damaged skin.

How long will the effects last?

The results will be seen almost right away, however one of the unique characteristics of Portrait® is that your skin will show continual improvement over time. Patients from clinical studies thus far have reported on-going improvements for as much as a year after treatment.

Is the Portrait® procedure safe?

Portrait® is very safe and its heating effect is highly localized. It does not involve the kind of intense, potentially damaging light radiation found with laser treatments, yet it delivers comparable results.

How much does the procedure cost?

The cost for Portrait® depends upon the treatment regimen you and your doctor choose. Overall the costs are comparable to other procedures but, at every treatment level, Portrait® results are superior. You may also require fewer treatments with Portrait® to get the results you want.

Can Portrait® be used with other treatments?

Your dermatologist will advise you on the best way to combine treatments such as Botox® or dermal fillers. If you have had a chemical peel or other resurfacing procedure within the last 12 months you should discuss the timing of having your Portrait® procedure with your dermatologist.
